I have been eyeing this J. Crew dress for what seems like an eternity. From the neon color to the illusion lace neckline, I knew I had to have it. But with a price tag of $148, I could never bring myself to pull the trigger. After all, this isn't the kind of dress you can wear every day. And if we're being honest, I never wear a cocktail dress for more than one occasion – so it’s hard for me to justify spending a lot of money on these kinds of purchases. But when I saw that this J. Crew dress was on sale with an additional 40% off, I just about died. I knew I didn’t have an event to wear it to, but since I'm impulsive (and have a shopping problem) I ordered the dress anyway and figured I could rationalize the purchase later.
Enter rationalization. Even with the dress on sale, I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money if I was only going to wear it once. Plus, it’s just too damn cute to only wear once (#amIright?) So as soon as I got this beauty in the mail I ran to my closet to figure out how I could make it work for everyday wear. I’m no stranger to wearing dresses as skirts and usually do so by tying up a button down (and I'll definitely do that with this dress soon), but for this look, I went a little more bold and paired the neon yellow lace “skirt” with my neon striped top from the Target kids department. They are the exact same perfect shade of neon and I couldn’t resist the pairing. The wide brown belt around the waist serves two purposes. #1 to help disguise the tucked up shirt and #2 to define the waist. I'm really happy with how this look turned out and I'm so glad I purchased this dress!
